Research Acceleration Fellowships - Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Futures Institute

The Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Futures Institute (AICF) is pleased to invite applications from Level B, C, and D academics who are looking to accelerate their research in this field.

The Institute is offering fellowships to faculty members of any faculty at Charles Sturt University who are interested in pursuing research in any of the four (4) areas of interest of AICF:

  • Defence, cybersecurity, and biosecurity
  • Smart supply chains
  • Sustainable behaviours
  • Responsible AI

The Fellowship 

  • Fixed Term - 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025
  • Duration - 1 to 12 months 
  • Level B/C/D 

We invite applications from Level B, C, and D academics who are looking to accelerate their research in this field. Fellows can request a fellowship length between 1 month and 12 months and should have a collaborator in an international university (outside Australia). 

Fellows will receive funding from the AICF, which will cover the fellow's salary buyout (between 10% and 50% for level B academics and between 5% and 20% for level C and D academics), direct research costs, and travel for the fellow to their research collaborator and/or conference. Direct costs of the project, such as data collection costs, may also be covered by the Institute.

Please note that equipment costs and any indirect costs are not covered under this fellowship.

During the fellowship period, fellows will be required to produce one research paper and apply for a grant by the end of the fellowship. Fellows will also be required to participate in outreach activities of the Institute, such as events, interviews, blogging, and filming.

AICF is focused on advancing research in AI for Regional Futures, translating research to address real-world problems, training academic and industrial leaders of the future, positioning Charles Sturt University as a leader in AI and cyber security research for regional discovery, and leading the public conversation in AI for Regional Futures. Areas of focus include defence, cyber security, and biosecurity; sustainable behaviours; smart and resilient supply chains; and responsible AI.

Application Requirements

Submit a proposal outlining your research project, including the research question, methodology, expected outcomes, and timeline. Please also include your collaborator's details, budget for direct costs, a CV, and a letter from your line manager confirming their awareness and support of your application.
